The moon is about to take a real hit. Experts say about 3 tons of space junk will hit the moon on Friday (March 4th) at about 5,800 miles per hour. Though it could take weeks, or even months, to confirm the impact through satellite images. The experts believe it’s been tumbling through space since China launched it nearly a decade ago, but Chinese officials say they doubt it’s theirs. Regardless of where it came from, the experts expect the junk to make a hole 33 to 66 feet across the moon, and send moon dust flying hundreds of miles across the surface. The moon already has countless craters, and since it has no real atmosphere, it is defenseless against the constant barrage of meteors and asteroids, and the occasional incoming spacecraft. Since there is also no weather or erosion on the moon the craters can last forever.
