There’s a new app that charges a few bucks to let you make small choices in someone’s life called NewNew. The app charges users $5 to vote in a poll set up by a stranger on a topic of their choosing—and it can be about anything—from what to have to dinner to who to date. The description of the app on the website says it’s like “a human stock market where you buy shares in the lives of real people.” Those real people are primarily celebrities and social media stars. The app’s investors, including Will Smith, say it’s a good way for these individuals to connect with fans in a more personal, direct way. But, critics have compared the app to an episode of the Netflix show Black Mirror, saying it’s dangerous to hand over control of decisions to others. Those wanting to join the site as a creator will have to join a waiting list after applying.
