Yoder: Swineford defeats Rothrock Gold in season opener

MCVEYTOWN – Late game offense from Swineford exploded leading them to a 16-8 victory over Rothrock Gold during a Cal Ripken Jr Minor division baseball game Thursday evening.

Swineford’s Auto Glass got on the scoreboard first during the top of the first inning as they scored a run during the frame thanks to a single from David Shoop which brought home Keiton Swineford.

But Rothrock God responded in the bottom half of the inning driving in two runs. The first run was driven in by Triton Moist who hit a single, scoring Maddox Sunderland. Then Cohen Vogt got himself a single up the middle which brought home Evan Moist giving Rothrock a 2-1 lead.

Swineford then evened the score at two apiece in the top of the second as Timmy Royer scored on a passed ball, making it 2-2.

Rothrock added two more runs in the bottom of the second with runs being scored by Knox Hartman and the other scored by Cade Cherry.

But then Swineford bats started going as the top of third, they drove in three runs thanks to a single from Shoop which scored Bensyn Milliken. Shoop later scored on a passed ball before a Timmy Royer single brought home Maverick Shirk giving them a 5-4 lead.

Swineford didn’t stop there as they ended up scoring three more runs in the fourth and added on another four runs the following inning to give them a 12-4 lead.

Rothrock Gold was struggling offensively as their next two innings they went scoreless. But they continued to battle and finally got the runs to come in as in the bottom of the fifth, Rothrock scored four runs in the frame. The first run came from Miles Sunderland who scored on a passed ball before a massive bases clearing double from Triton Moist cutting the lead down to 12-8.

But Swineford remained focused and were able to put the game on ice scoring four runs in the top of the sixth.

Swineford was led by David Shoop who had four hits in the game including a double. Keiton Swineford, Timmy Royer and Ryker Knepp all had a hit in the game.

For Rothrock Gold, they were led at the plate by Triton Moist who had two hits including a double. Cohen Vogt also had a hit in the game.

Pitching wise, Shoop had seven strikeouts for Swineford, Eriston O’Donnel had five strikeouts and Keiton Swineford had one strikeout.

Other side, Rothrock had strikeouts from Maddox Sunderland who had three, Triton Moist had two, Evan Moist had three and Cohen Vogt had one strikeout.

Swineford’s Auto Glass will play on Monday as they will travel to Longfellow field. Rothrock Gold will look to get into the win column on Saturday as they will head to Kish Park to compete against Kovalchik.
