LEWISTOWN – While it is pretty well established that this will be the final season that we will be having football at Mitchell Field.
To be perfectly honest, it will be very weird because my whole life that’s all have I known since I was little that Mitchell Field was a place to go and have fun watching the game of football. The field itself has been around long before I was even born.
Some of my favorite memories as a kid were going to the stadium with family after a meal and we all head out to the classic Indian Valley versus Lewistown games aka the Iron Kettle games.
Another fun memory was my freshmen year of high school was when the Panthers were able to win the Iron Kettle. I also enjoyed going to watch the Power Puff games as well.
Of course, there were plenty of other fun events happening at Mitchell Field. Such events like the Juniata Valley and Central Keystone leagues had their championship games as well as seeing the Burnham Bulldogs had their Super bowl games at the stadium.
It will be sad to see it go honestly, mainly because it is one of the few things remaining from my childhood. But I also understand that we all have to move forward.
So with that being said, let’s hold onto the memories of the past, but get ready to make some new ones in the coming years.
But most importantly, we must continue to support the youth sports and create something special.
Let’s Go Huskies!
