LEWISTOWN – We are getting closer to some Mifflin County boys basketball and to hype up the season, the Huskies hosted their first annual MC Basketball Kick-off Hype Night over at Shy Bear this past Sunday night.

The boys are coming off a 10-13 season last year where they had made the playoffs and made it all the way to the District 6 Title game where they were defeated by rival State College.

But this season under head coach Wade Curry who is in his fourth season as the head of the program believes that his team can make a splash in not just the Keystone division, but the entire Mid-Penn Conference as well. Joining him on his staff will be Dave and Adam Sheetz.

“We are a young team, but we are not an inexperienced team,” Curry said. “Across the program the kids have been very committed to offseason skill and strength training and they have been for years since the sixth and seventh grade.”

“So we are very excited to see our senior leadership and how our young players will gel with them,” Curry continued. “I think we will be a very scrappy team and we expect to play a very high paced game.”

The senior leadership was definitely showcased throughout the event. One of those cases came from senior forward Aidan Attivo. Attivo feels confident in his team’s ability.

“I believe people will not be expecting to see what we will bring this season,” Attivo said.

Fellow senior forward Nate Parkes also is revved up and ready to go this year.

“I am looking forward to throwing down some dunks this season,” Parkes said.

Also at the event was junior guard Evan Strohecker.

“We have a young team, but we have shooters and a deep lineup,” Strohecker said. “And our defensive energy will be big for us this year.”

Speaking of youth on the team, I also was able to get a comment from sophomore guard Jack Curry who much like his teammates is extremely excited to see how the season plays out.

“I am looking forward to surprise some teams,” Curry said. “I believe some teams will not be expecting the intensity that we will be bringing this season.”

There you have it Mifflin County fans! Get ready for another fun year of Mifflin County boys basketball. Come on out and support the Huskies! Best of luck to Coach Curry and the rest of the team.

I would also like to thank you to Maxi Curry for the invite to the event as well as the staff of Shy Bear and their friendly service.

The Huskies begin their season at Shikellamy on Dec. 4.
