MCVEYTOWN – The McVeytown Eagles got behind the efforts of their defense in their 20-0 victory over the Kish Indians-South during the opening game of the CKYFCL Midget division football game Sunday afternoon.
Both defenses did an incredible job holding the other offenses at bay and left the opening quarter scoreless.
It wasn’t until midway through the second quarter when the scoring began and it was the Eagles who got on the board first thanks to a massive 71 yard run by Calvin Napikoski for the score making it 6-0.
McVeytown got back on the scoreboard again late in the third quarter as Napikoski found the endzone again with this time being a seven yard run for the score.
Then in the fourth quarter, Napikoski made a nice four yard pass to Canyan Brown for another McVeytown touchdown.
The Eagles added their final two points of the game from Cole Laughlin who chased down a Kish player in the endzone to complete the safety.
Laughlin also had a couple of sacks in the game as well Owen Fultz who also had a pair of sacks. Dean Armstrong had himself a fumble recovery and Alex Weaver had a tackle.
For the Kish Indians, they were led by Paxton Snook, Chase Yoder, Easton Trutt and Knox Wagner who all contributed with some big defensive plays. Also, Izik Tate made a big play on defense for the Indians late in the first half making an incredible interception.
Kish will look to rebound on Wednesday as the Indians-South will travel to face the Derry-Decatur Cyclones at 5:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, McVeytown will play on Wednesday September 3 at 5 p.m.against the Kish Indians-North.
Best of luck to both teams.
Until Next Time!
