MILROY – A pair of big offensive innings carried the Foxpro Predators over the Milesburg Iron Kings by the final score of 9-0 during a CCBL baseball game Sunday afternoon.
After avoiding giving up runs with the bases loaded at the top of the first inning, the Predators got the bats going in the bottom half of the inning. Nick Negula got the offense going with a lead off double to left. Ethan Eichhorn drew a walk before Isaiah Kearns popped up to short for the first out.
But that didn’t stop the moment as the very next batter Jaxson Pupo smacked a single to center which brought home Negula to make it a one run ball game. Rylan Bailey then came to the plate and was looking for his pitch, which did not take long as on the very first pitch Bailey faced, he tanked it well over the left field fence and made it a 4-0 Foxpro lead.
It took a few innings for more runs to be scored but eventually starting pitcher Caleb Zimmerman helped himself and hammered a solo shot to left on an 0-2 count making it 5-0.
A little while later, the Predators came back for more and scored four more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Isaiah Kearns hit a single to right which brought home Negula before a Landen Eichhorn single scored both his brother Ethan as well as Kearns making it 8-0. The final run of the game came from Bailey who was on third and ran his way down to home plate while Landen Eichhorn was stealing second.
Foxpro was led by Negula who went 3-for-4 at the plate and had two doubles and a stolen base. Zimmerman and Bailey each had a home run.
For the Iron Kings, Tim Shawley, Gavin Fravel and Charles Kellogg each had a hit in the game.
Zimmerman was on the mound for the Predators and went all seven innings only allowing three hits for the afternoon. Zimmerman collected eight strikeouts while walking eight.
Owen Mutchler got the start for Milesburg, pitching four innings and had two strikeouts and four walks. Gavin Fravel went a third inning while Tony Rider finished off the one and two-thirds innings.
Both teams displayed great defense throughout the game with both Foxpro and Milesburg each turned a double play and the Predators had a spectacular diving catch from right fielder Evan Pupo.
Foxpro will look to keep the winning ways going as the Predators will hit the road on Thursday against Spring Creek. Milesburg will also be playing on Thursday as the Iron Kings will host Port Milda.
Good Luck to both teams!
