LEWISTOWN – Setting up and sitting them down!

Mifflin County hurler Maddison Wolfgang had her pitches working on the mound today as she picked up a complete 8-2 win over visiting Altoona.

Wolfgang finished her night allowing just two runs and one earned.

She also scattered five hits while striking out 15.

The game was closer than the score would show as the scrappy bunch from Altoona kept the game a 3-2 contest until the bottom of the fifth.

In the fifth, MIfflin County were able to get some clutch hitting and opportunistic base play to plate four runs, upping the contest to a 7-2 lead going into the final two Altoona at bats.

“They just kept battling. This was one of the games you look at the scoreboard we’re go into go, we’re going to go,” said MIfflin County coach Craig Weston. “They never stopped fighting and that’s all you can ask for.”

Highlighting the night for the Lady Huskies was Dakota Hershberger’s blast over the left centerfield wall for the solo home run.

Mifflin County opened the game scoring by scoring two in the first.

After Wolfgang took care of the Mountain Lions in the first, the Huskies got their bats going.

Alexis O’Brien got things started as she blasted a liner into left.

O’Brien moved up to second on a wild pitch.

Arika Henry reaches on a Mountain Lion miscue, allowing O’Brien to move up to third. Henry stole second, putting runners in scoring position.

Peyton McClure roped an 2RBI single, making it an early 2-0 advantage.

Again, Wolfgang and company shut down the Altoona offense, setting the stage for the MIfflin County offense to add another run.

Riley Hine notches a seeing-eye single into center to start off the inning.

Hine moved up to second on a past ball, putting her in scoring position.

Alexis O’Brien singles her in minutes later, upping the lead to 3-0.

Altoona broke out on the scoreboard in the third and again in the fifth, cutting the Huskies led to one, 3-2.

But the big bats came out when MIfflin County needed it, posting a 4-run fifth.

Peyton McClure started off the rally with a single to left.

With one out Sophia McCurdy singled to center, putting runners on first and second.

Wolfgang helped her own cause, laying down a picture perfect bunt to load the bases.

Hine grounded into a fielders choice as her grounder led to forcing out Wolfgang, allowing McClure.

Jesse Brumbaugh blasted a liner into left field, scoring McCurdy and Hine in the process.

Brumbaugh later scored on a single by Margo Reeder, upping the lead to a very comfortable 7-2 advantage.

In the sixth, Hershberger blasted a shot that easily cleared the centerfield fence, ending the scoring at 8-2.
