West Branch 52, Mount Union 38

MOUNT UNION — Despite a strong start and finish, Mount Union just could not overcome its scoring woes in its 52-38 loss to West Branch in an Inter County Conference girls basketball game on Monday night.

At the beginning of the game, the Trojans came out aggressively on defense making West Branch earn every single one of its points that were scored in the period. In fact, the Trojans were keeping pace offensively as well scoring as many points as the Warriors with the game being tied at 11 heading into the second quarter.
But then things began to haywire offensively for Mount Union during the second period as the Trojans were held to just three points in the frame which was a deep shot from Chelsea Williams while West Branch scored 17 points.
Then in the third quarter, Mount Union was struggling again to get the shots to fall only scoring five points in the frame.
However, Mount Union continued to battle till the very end as during the fourth quarter, the Trojans scored 19 points in the period. Which was as many as they had through the first three quarters combined. Mount Union found contributions offensively from multiple players as five different players had scored in the frame.

Molly Smith led the Trojans with 14 points for the evening. Williams was the other Mount Union player to score in double digits having 11 for the game.

Mount Union (1-3) travels to Penns Valley on Wednesday.
