East Juniata’s Logan Strawser and Josef Book Place High in the SPIRE Scholastic Showcase Indoor Track Meet Held in Geneva, Ohio on Sunday, February 5, 2023
Junior Josef Book placed 9th in the 60 meter hurdles running a time of 8.62 in the finals.  20 athletes took part in the event.  Senior Logan Strawser placed 4th in the 3200 meter race with a time of 9:14.68.  37 athletes took part in the event.
Coach Jeff Miller said “Josef and Logan had a great experience competing against some of the best athletes on the east coast.  The SPIRE facility is a beautiful 300 meter indoor track.  Josef didn’t run the time he wanted, but still gained experience from the meet.  Logan ran tough as usual in the 3200 running near the front of the race.  He ran an indoor personal best in the 3200 and moved himself from being 12th in the state in the 3k to 5th with his great result today.  He came off the track with a smile on his face and blood running down his leg from being spiked during the race.  His performance should secure him a spot in the 3k race at the Pennsylvania State Indoor Track & Field Championship to be held on Sunday, February 26th at Penn State University. Josef is currently ranked 6th in the state in the 60 hurdles and this should also secure him a spot in the indoor championships.”
Two Juniata Track Athletes compete at Slippery Rock University Open Track Meet
On Sunday, February 5, 2023, 8th grader Sylvia Brubaker and sophomore Jessie Bomberger competed in the 3k race at Slippery Rock University.  Sylvia ran a time of 11:36 and Jessie ran a time of 13:40.
Juniata Distance Coach Jeff Miller said “This was Sylvia’s first indoor track meet and Jessie’s first time running the 3k indoors.  It was a good experience for the both of them and they learned some things to help them become better runners in the future.”
