Oliver Thornburg collected three hits in four at bats, but Bellefonte lost to Hollidaysburg 16-9 on Wednesday. Thornburg hit a solo home run to center field in the fifth inning, doubled in the first inning, and singled in the third inning.
The Red Raiders lost despite out-hitting Hollidaysburg 14 to 13. Thornburg and Zach Lehman each collected three hits for Bellefonte.
The Red Raiders opened the scoring in the first after Thornburg doubled, scoring one run.
Hollidaysburg captured the lead, 4-1, in the bottom of the first when Ulrey doubled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Mullin singled, scoring two runs.
Bellefonte tied the game in the top of the third thanks to a single by Lehman, and a fielder’s choice by Parker VonGunden.
A single by Bell gave Hollidaysburg the lead, 6-4, in the bottom of the third.
The Tigers scored five runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Ulrey singled, scoring one run, Rossman doubled, scoring two runs, and Bell singled, scoring two runs.
Bellefonte scored one run in the top of the fifth on a solo home run to center field by Thornburg.
Triston Heeman led things off on the mound for the Red Raiders. The southpaw allowed six hits and 10 runs (seven earned) over three innings, striking out none and walking five. Hartman led things off on the hill for Hollidaysburg. The starting pitcher surrendered nine hits and five runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking three.
Bellefonte piled up 14 hits in the game. Evan Mattern and Peyton Vancas each collected multiple hits for the Red Raiders. Lehman stole two bases.
The Tigers tallied 13 hits in the game. Rossman drove the middle of the lineup, leading Hollidaysburg with four runs batted in. Rossman went 2-for-4 on the day. Mullin and Ulrey each collected three hits for the Tigers. Szynal and Bell each collected multiple hits for Hollidaysburg. Hollidaysburg had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Albarano and Banks led the team with two walks each. The Tigers were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Gibbons made the most plays with five.
Bellefonte welcome Somerset on Friday for their next game.
