SPRING MILLS – On a brutally cold and blustery spring day, the Penns Valley baseball team hosted fellow Mountain League opponent Tyrone.
Despite the near freezing conditions, the Tyrone bats were red hot as the defeated the Rams 12-2.
Leading the way offensively for the Golden Eagles were Ross Gampe as he collected four hits and scored four times as well.
Teammates Luke Brooks and Zach LeGars who both topped out with three hits each. Brooks also posted three RBIs in the win.
Rounding out the multiple hitters were Nick Lehner and catcher Landon Hamer.
All in all, the Golden Eagles roped 18 hits in the afternoon contest.
Penns Valley finished with five hits.
Ty Houtz was the lone multiple hitter for the Rams. He also picked up one-of-two RBIs for his team.
Tyrone led off the contest plating two runs in the top of the first.
Ashton Walk started off the game with a lead off single to centerfield.
With two out, Brooks brings in Walk on a double into left center.
LeGars followed with a single that scored Brooks, taking a 2-0 advantage.
The Eagles were back at in the top of the third, adding another run to its early tally.
Brooks would single in David Lang to up the Tyrone lead to 3-0.
Tyrone held Penns Valley again in the bottom of the third, keeping the Rams bats at bay.
In the fourth, the Eagles extended its lead to 4-0.
However, the Rams were able to get one back in the bottom of the inning.
Hayden Houser led things off with the team’s first hit of the ball game, a single that went right past the Tyrone shortstop.
Houser later scored on a RBI single by Houtz, ending the shut out at 4-1.
Unfortunately for the Rams the Tyrone bats were just getting warmed up as they scored one in the fifth and six in the sixth, jumping out to an 11-1 advantage.
Penns Valley battled back in the sixth to keep the game going, at 11-2.
But the Eagles were too much for the Rams tonight as they went into the 12-2 victory.
