Starting out the day was 6th grade cross country manager Evan Yackey competing in the open 1600 race. Evan ran a time of 5:50.36 to take 3rd place with a new personal best time. This was Evan’s first indoor track meet of his life. Next up for the Indians was freshman Josiah Barner in the boys 400 meter race. He ran aggressively to place 5th overall with a personal best time of 55.91. Shortly after the 400, he joined senior Wyatt Stroup competing in the boys 3k race. Wyatt won the race with a time of 9:22.09. Josiah improved his personal best by running 10:59.84 to take 5th overall.
“Despite horrible road conditions getting to the track meet, the 3 boys had fun and walked away with some good times. Evan ran great in his first indoor track meet. Josiah shaved another 3 seconds off his 400 and another 16 seconds off his 3k. He learned some things in his races. He found out how hard it is to run a 3k shortly after running a hard 400 meters. Wyatt was disappointed in his 3k, but it was his first time running on a 200 meter flat track with no one to push him. He will rebound and come back stronger.” Coach Jeff Miller said. Juniata plans on competing at the State College #3 indoor track meet held on Thursday, February 20th if the weather is good.
