The Juniata High School Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams take TVAA wins against all opponents at Little Buffalo State Park on Tuesday, September 9

In the boys challenging 5k race, junior Coy Kerstetter led the Indians with a 3rd place finish with a time of 20:26.  Senior Kade Wagner came shortly after placing 5th with a time of 20:36.  Sophomore Josiah Barner finished right behind Kade in 6th place with a time of 20:37.  Sophomore David Mayall-Marker placed 8th with a time of 20:59.  Junior Joel Hardin rounded out the scoring with a 13th place finish in a time of 22:02.  Freshman Luke Weiand placed 20th with a time of 25:15 and sophomore John Randolph finished in 24th place with a time of 26:33. ” I thought the boys ran great and got in some good quality work tonight.  Coy showed he is a strength runner on this difficult course.  He’s getting stronger each week.”  Juniata coach Jeff Miller said.  The boys won against Newport, Susquenita, and Upper Dauphin.

In the girls race, junior Sylvia Brubaker took the win with a time of 21:44.  Sophomore Carolyn Heidenreich took 2nd place with a time of 23:23.  Sophomore Erendira Martinez-Ramirez placed 5th with a time of 28:23 despite missing a turn on the course, and running extra distance.  Junior Selena Mayall-Marker came in 9th place with a time of 29:14.  Freshman Ella Zimmerman rounded out the scoring with a time of 29:46 good enough for 10th place.  Juniata Coach Jeff Miller said “It was nice to see our girls take 3 wins tonight despite having Hannah Zeiders sit this one out with a calf strain.  Most of the girls just ran hard for parts of the course so time was irrelevant.”  The girls won against Newport, Upper Dauphin, and Susquenita.

Twenty Juniata junior high cross country runners competed in a 1.95 mile race shortly after the high school races running 1 lap of the same course.  In the boys race, seventh grader Evan Yackey won the race with a time of 12:24.  While 8th grader Moira Doydora won the girls race with a time of 15:49.

Juniata Coach Miller said “Both the girls and boys got in some good work on this challenging Little Buffalo State Park course tonight despite only having one girl competitor from Newport.  They didn’t let that affect them.  They ran competitively against each other.”
