Taylor Bumgardner Drives 5 Runners Home In Penns Valley Victory Over Hollidaysburg

Taylor Bumgardner drove in five runs on two hits to lead Penns Valley past Hollidaysburg Varsity Softball 19-6 on Thursday at Hollidaysburg Area Junior High School. Bumgardner hit a home run to center field in the fifth inning, scoring three runs, and doubled in the first inning, scoring one.

The Lady Rams jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Bumgardner doubled, scoring one run, Haddley Stover singled, scoring two runs, and Emily Wert singled, scoring one run.

The Lady Rams added one run in the second. Clara Brooks singled to center field, making the score 5-0.

Penns Valley added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when Olivia Smeltzer drew a walk, scoring one run, Elle Dinges singled, scoring two runs, and Brooks doubled, scoring one run.

Bumgardner homered to center field, scoring three runs in the top of the fifth for the Penns Valley.

The Lady Rams scored seven runs on four hits in the top of the sixth inning. Callie Riddle doubled, scoring two runs, Dinges singled, scoring one run, Bumgardner was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Stover drew a walk, scoring one run, and Wert singled, scoring two runs.

Dinges pitched four innings in relief for the Lady Rams. The right-handed pitcher allowed five hits and six runs (one earned) while, striking out four and walking three. Bumgardner began the game for Penns Valley. The starter surrendered one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out five and walking none. Mikaylah Vincent began the game for Hollidaysburg . The starter gave up 13 hits and 19 runs (15 earned) over six innings, striking out two and walking eight.

Penns Valley accumulated 13 hits in the game. Wert went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Lady Rams in hits. Dinges, Stover, and Brooks each collected multiple hits for Penns Valley . Smeltzer led the Lady Rams with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing eight walks for the game.

Genna Peacock drove the middle of the lineup, leading Hollidaysburg  with two runs batted in. The outfielder went 2-for-3 on the day.

Next up for Penns Valley is a game against Central Cambria on Friday.
