Strodes Mills opens with 8-run first, tops Reedsville in championship game

LEWISTOWN- Friday night, the best of the best in the MIfflin County Major League softball went head-to-head for the championship crown.

Strodes Mills went up against Reedsville in the title tilt.

Strodes Mills took the contest 13-5.

Grayce Napikoski notched the win for Strodes Mills going four innings, striking out four, walking six and allowing only three hits and four runs.

Finishing off the contest on the mound for Strodes was Brenna Benny who went two innings, striking out one, walking one and allowed one run.

Leadoff hitter Benny led the offensive punch going 3-for-4 double and three RBIs.

Napikoski was as just as strong in the batters box posting a 3-for-4 effort, posting an RBI.

Teammates Emily Dickson and Gracelyn Rider both finished with two hits each.

Strodes Mills exploded onto the scoreboard in the first, posting eight runs in the inning.

Benny singled to start things off.

Napikoski followed with a single of her own.

With one out, Sara Bennett walked to load the bases.

Dickson was clutch under pressure roping an RBI single to score Benny.

Rider followed with a single of her own, scoring Napikoski while still keeping the bases loaded.

With two out, Taryn Huber notched an easy RBI walking with the bases loaded to score Bennett, making it a 3-0 score.

Allie Thornburg took one for the team when she was hit by a pitch, upping the Strodes Mills lead once again.

Benny cleared the bases after blasting a triple, upping the score to 7-0.

Napikoski, who was batting for the second time in the inning scored Benny on an RBI single to end the first inning scoring.

Going into the second, Strodes Mills was in charge of the contest, 8-1.

Strodes added another in the second while Napikoski and company kept the Reedsville team at bay.

Leading 9-1, Reedsville battled back in the third cutting into the lead.

However, Strodes was able to notch another run of its own, making it a 10-4 advantage.

From there Strodes Mills continued to keep the momentum, taking the contest 13-5.
