STATE COLLEGE- The State College wrestling team came out victorious in its season opener Wednesday defeating Shikellamy 36-27.
At 172, State College’s Asher Cunningham pinned Ned Drumheller, 0:11.
The Braves tied things at 189. Shikellamy proceeded to take 215 and 285 to go up 16-6 heading into 107.
State College got back on the board at 107 when Nico Diaz pinned Jacob Hendricks, at 5:53 cutting the score to 16-12.
Kael Davis put the Little Lions back in the lead as he pinned Max Holman at 3:34.
Things continued strong for State College at 121 when Jon Whitbred muscled out a 9-2 decision over Ryder Borich.
Jonathan Coates kept things rolling along for State as he pinned Drake Beyer at 0:49 to pad its lead to 27-16.
The Braves battled back taking 133 and 139 to cut the State College lead to 27-23.
But at 145, the Little Lions James Whitbread extended the lead back to 10 as he had a late pin over Gavin Keefer at 3:25.
152-pounder Brady Bucher put the match on ice as he picked up an 8-3 decision over AJ Benedict.
