In a great Tuesday night field hockey game, State College came out on top. The weather constantly threatened throughout the game. The first half was characterized by furious but indecisive back and forth action. In the second half, action on the pitch heated up almost in proportion to the increased precipitation. State College’s Olivia Miller, playing a very aggressive half, scored the first goal. Miller sped into the near goal area from the shallow right and engaged in an active one on one action with the Newport goalie before the score at 6:30 in the third quarter. State College followed up 3 minutes later with a penalty corner goal by Hannah Garland with an assist by Carly Erickson. This was fortunate as Newport returned the favor with a penalty corner goal at 2:17 in the fourth quarter by Sarah Godbout, assisted by Adison Geer. The aggressiveness of the offense was testified to by the 15 and 9 saves by the Newport (Ella Weidenhammer) and State College (Molly Schreiner) goalies, respectively.

The next game sees State College playing at Mifflin County, ThursdaySeptember 29, JV 5:15 PM, Varsity 4:00 PM.
