It came down to the wire on Wednesday, as the State College Little Lions grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 2-1, over Chambersburg. The game was tied at one in the bottom of the seventh when Michael Powell singled, scoring one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. The Little Lions pitchers struck out four, while Chambersburg sat down eight.
Chambersburg got on the board in the top of the fourth.
Chambersburg committed an error, which helped State College tie the game at one in the bottom of the fifth.
Cody Norman stepped on the mound first for the Little Lions. The left-handed pitcher gave up two hits and one run over four innings, striking out three and walking three. Oskar Williams tossed three innings of no-run ball for State College in relief. The pitcher gave up one hit, striking out one and walking none.
Powell led the Little Lions with one run batted in. The left fielder went 1-for-4 on the day. Jake Hall led State College with two hits in four at bats. The Little Lions turned one double play in the game.
Mauriello went 2-for-3 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in.
Next up for State College is a game at Bellefonte (Varsity) on Friday.
