State College Area Roller Derby’s Competitive Opener SCAR vs EMRD
Apr 19, 2023

State College, PA The 2023 State College Area Roller (SCAR) Derby Board of Directors and league members are

pleased to present our Competitive Season Opener at C3 Sports at 200 Ellis Pl, State College, PA 16801.

Join us for our first competitive game of the season as we take on the Enchanted Mountain Roller Derby from Olean, NY. This will also mark the return of SCAR to international roller derby rankings! First whistle is at 5 pm and will be followed by a dedication ceremony for our teammate, Blackout Betty, who passed away recently. Our competitive home opener is held in honor of her, and we will be taking donations to start a scholarship, called the Betty Fund, to help reduce the barrier of entry for skaters joining roller derby. All proceeds from the game will also be put towards the Betty Fund.

This event costs $10, children 10 and under get in free. You can buy tickets in advance at Brown Paper Tickets ( or they can be purchased at the door with cash or card. Bleachers and folding chairs are available for seating. Front row seating is 18+ only. As always, you may bring your own chair to enjoy the game. Masking is optional!

“SCAR Derby has not played a game for rankings since 2019! Betty loved nothing more than fierce competition, and we could not think of a better way to honor her competitive spirit and love for roller derby than by returning SCAR to the international rankings,” said Taylor so Swifty, skater with State College Area Roller Derby.

Support Blackout Betty by donning your favorite black ensemble! We hope to see you all there!

About State College Area Roller Derby

SCAR Derby is a skater-owned and operated women’s flat-track derby league founded in 2010. We are a volunteer organization, including skater athletes, referees, and officials. Our membership is comprised of individuals from the State College area, spanning a wide range of ages and lifestyles. Together, we form a strong community of athleticism, healthy competition and fellowship. In 2015, SCAR Derby proudly became a member of Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and now competes for an international ranking. SCAR Derby has a travel A-team, a travel B-team, and two home teams who practice year-round and compete from February through November. We operate as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, funded by league dues, ticket sales, skating clinic fees, sponsorship/ad sales, and donations.
