State College, PA (Oct 19, 2022) State College Area Roller Derby is pleased to announce that their Birthday Bash
Tournament as part of the WFTDA’s Back on Track series on October 15-16th was an absolute success!
SCAR Derby celebrated its 12th birthday and hosted the ONLY competitive tournament on the east coast in 2022. Eight teams battled it out in two brackets to take home the cake across 8 games in 2 days. Gem City Roller Derby, Philly Roller Derby, Queen City Roller Derby, and Steel City Roller Derby were the teams that comprised the A Bracket. Dutchland Derby Rollers, Ithaca League of Women Rollers, ROC City Roller Derby, and SCAR Derby’s own team made up the B Bracket. SCAR took home the Championship Trophy for the B Bracket, while Gem City of Dayton, OH fought valiantly to win the A Bracket and take home the trophy.
“We did it! SCAR Derby put on our first ever tournament, and the derby community and State College community came out in force. We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend in Happy Valley” said Elizabeth Kelly, Fundraising and Sponsorship Chair of State College Area Roller Derby. This event was generously supported by the Awesome Foundation through the Awesome Grant, the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau, Denny’s of Mill Hall, Badger and Hound, and Forever Media.
The games will eventually be available on the WFTDA’s [Women’s Flat Track Derby Association] Youtube channel for viewing.

About State College Area Roller Derby
SCAR Derby is a skater-owned and operated women’s flat-track derby league founded in 2010. We are a volunteer organization, including skater athletes, referees, and officials. Our membership is comprised of individuals from the Centre Region spanning a wide range of ages and lifestyles. Together, we form a strong community of athleticism, healthy competition and fellowship. In 2015, SCAR Derby proudly became a member of Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and now competes for an international ranking. SCAR Derby has a travel A-team, a travel B-team, and two home teams who practice year-round and compete from February through November. We operate as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, funded by league dues, ticket sales, skating clinic fees, sponsorship/ad sales, and donations.
