STRABANE – Six Mifflin County wrestlers stay alive going into day two in Regional action at the West Regional Class 3A wrestling championships at
Canon-McMillan High School.
The Huskies had an impressive opening day showing with Andrew Alexander (107), Kamden Everly (139), Avery Aurand (189) and 285-pounder Peyton Kearns each posting two opening wins putting them in a strong position going into Saturday’s semis.
At 107, Alexander started first round action as he dominated Moon’s Bryce Thomas, 9-2.
Everly dominated his opener with a tech fall McDowell’s Donovan Neavins,15-0.
At 152, Seiler found himself in a tough battle in his tough 11-8 decision over Meadville’s Ryder.
189-pounder Aurand wasted no time in dominating Henry Patts of Franklin Regional, in a major decision win at 9-1.
Peyton Kearns rounded out the first round wins for the Huskies with a hard fought 4-0 decision over D’Angelo Hamilton of Pittsburgh Central Catholic.
In the quarterfinals, the Huskies continued to shine.
Alexander picked up a late pin at 107 over Franklin Regionals’ Beau Fennick.
Things continued to roll for the Huskies matmen at 139.
Everly won by decision over Plum’s Owen Campbell, 7-2.
At 189, Aurand delivered a clutch performance defeating Nezumiiro Green of Pittsburgh Central Catholic, 6-2.
Coming into 285, Kearns won another hard fought decision defeating West Allegheny’s Cam Danna, 4-1.
Jake Knable (133) and Colby Seiler (152) lost in their matches in the quarterfinal.
Moon’s Cael Yanek picked up the 2-1 thriller over Knable.
At 152, Thomas Jefferson’s Maddox Shaw pinned Colby Seiler.
However, both will continue on in consolation brackets, as they fight to stay alive to advance to the states.
Jake Kable won his first match in fine fashion as he pinned Erie’s Lincoln Slupski by pin fall at 3:09.
Unfortunately for the Huskies 127-pounder Layten Bowersox lost in his first two matches to end his 2024-25 season.
Bowersox lost his first match against Trinity Tech’s Dom Canali, by a tech fall 23-2.
In the Consolation First Round
127-pounder Mikey Ruane of Franklin Regional won by tech fall over Bowersox, 15-0.
