The Shippensburg University wrestling team picked up its first dual meet win of the 2024-25 season Tuesday evening with a 34-14 triumph over Saint Vincent College inside the Robert S. Carey Center.

Shippensburg (1-1) closed the dual meet with seven consecutive victories starting at 149 pounds, getting wins from redshirt-sophomore Mike Trainor (Cochranville, Pa./Octorara), junior Kyler Everly (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County), freshman Anthony DeAngelo (Carlisle, Pa./Trinity), junior Trey Shoemaker (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County), junior Cole Lang (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin), sophomore Diesel Koser (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg Area) and senior Connor Livingston (Westminster, Md./Manchester Valley).

Saint Vincent (0-1) jumped out to a 14-0 edge in the meet, thanks to bonus-point victories in the first three weight classes courtesy of Bearcat wrestlers Ryan Klingensmith, Kyle McCollum and Ryan Yocum.

Trainor halted the host’s momentum by taking it to his opponent at 149, racking up 13 points before cinching in a cradle for a pin just ahead of the second period whistle.

Everly, making his season debut, executed a defensive masterclass at 157 that resulted in a 11-1 major decision. DeAngelo followed with a victory in a swing match at 165, where his 5-1 third period was the difference in a 12-6 win over Saint Vincent’s Chase Brandebura.

Shoemaker reversed 174-pound opponent Charlie Meisch onto his back for a third period fall that gave the Raiders their first lead of the match.

At 184, Lang won a hard-fought decision over SVC’s Nathan Barkley. Tied at 8-8 entering the final period, Lang scored a takedown with a duck under inside the final minute and held on for a 13-12 decision.

Another exciting reverse pin from Koser at 197 sealed the Raider victory, and Livingston capped the dual meet with a pin at 285.

Junior Anthony Lavish (Fairless Hills, Pa./Conwell Egan) also picked a 3-0 decision over Saint Vincent’s Anthony Orlandini in an extra match at 149 pounds.

Prior to the dual meet, Saint Vincent held a mat dedication in honor of longtime SVC wrestling coach Tom “Legs” Harbert. Shippensburg was chosen as the opponent for the dedication due to his tie-ins with both schools, as he is a former SU wrestler and cross country runner and a member of the Shippensburg University Athletic Hall of Fame.

Next up, Shippensburg will compete at the Waynesburg Duals Sunday at 2 p.m.
