Sechler resigns from football post due to health issues
Apr 19, 2022

LEWISTOWN – Longtime MIfflin County football coach Scot Sechler resigned early Tuesday Morning due to health concerns.

“First I would like to thank you Tish Maclay, Bobby Lepley, Mr Crosson and staff, and the MCSD school board for having the confidence to take a chance on me as head football coach at Mifflin County.  We had a lot of ups and downs along the way, but one thing I’m sure of, we helped some young boys mature into good quality young men who will be productive members of our community,” said Sechler. “That has always been a priority of mine.

Unfortunately due to health circumstances beyond my control, I must now resign my position of Head Football Coach at Mifflin County.  I unfortunately no longer have the energy, vigor, or concentration needed to lead this program to the next level.  I feel we have set it up nicely for the next young guy to step in and take over.  I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank my Wife and family for the continued support during my coaching career.  Anyone who’s been married to a football coach knows what that task requires.  Lastly, I’d like to thank all the players, coaches, trainers, and managers over the years who have made practices, scrimmages, and games a great environment for our kids to be a part of.  I love each and everyone of you.  Although I may not be with you on the field, for as long as I can, I’ll be there cheering you on from the stands.  If I can leave you all with one last thing ALWAYS REMEMBER:  “Today is a great day to get better!  Go out there today and be a better you!”  I love you all, and wish you the best in the upcoming season.”

In response to Sechler’s resignation, the Huskies Athletic Department released a statement.

The MC Athletic Department would like to thank Coach Sechler and his staff for all the time, effort, passion and dedication they have given the program over the years!  Coach Sechler is more than a coach, he is a lifelong influence for many.  Coach Sechler will focus on his health, but will continue to support the Huskies and remain a vital part of the athletic program.  Mifflin County is lucky to have a coach like Scot Sechler and the Huskies will be behind him as he faces his challenges!

Editor’s note – Coach Sechler will be truly missed. He is one of the TRUE good guys still left in coaching!! It was a honor covering him and his teams!
