As a last minute replacement for a cancelled contest at Central Mountain, the MIfflin County girls took the long trip south to Lebanon County to battle Annville Cleona in a Wednesday night contest.
The long travel time had no effects on the Lady Huskies or their shooting as they topped their opponents 59-43.
Mifflin County had a night of scoring by committee as Marissa Gingrich led all shooters with a 17 points and six assists. Amelia Leister just missed a double double posting 11 points and nine rebounds.
Maelyn Gingrich also finished with 11 points in the win.
Riley Hine hit double digits on the boards with 10 rebounds while teammate Aija Binder finished with eight
“Annville was a last minute makeup game after our Central Mountain game got canceled, so we really didn’t know much about them,” said MIfflin County coach Aaron Gingrich.
“However, the girls made plays when they needed to, and cruised to a comfortable road win against a scrappy team”
Mifflin County got off to a strong start to the contest posting 17 points while it’s defense held Annville to 13. Marissa Gingrich paved the way with nine points, all triples.
“Although every player contributed, and several players had solid stat lines, it was nice to see Maelyn and Jalee Bodtorf knock down some big shots in the first half, and Riley Hine, Aija and Amelia combine for 27 rebounds,” said Gingrich.
In the second, 17 was the lucky number once again as they posted it once again as its defense allowed just 11 this time.
When the two teams went into the intermission, MIfflin County led 34-24.
Things continued to go the Huskies way in the second half as they outscored Annville Cleona 25-19.
In the JV contest, the Huskies won 30-19.
Leading the Lady Huskies in the contest were Mackenzie Peachey with 11 points and Jalee Bodtorf posting nine.
With the win, the Lady Huskies improve to 13-8.
Next up for MIfflin County is a trip to Hollidaysburg Feb.14th.
