UNIVERSITY PARK – Saturday, Penn State welcomed in the Maryland Terrapins on Senior day in front of 104,044 fans in 26 degree weather in frigid temperatures. The end of the game it was around 11 degrees but it didn’t hold back the Nittany Lions faithful rallying behind them to help them grab a convincing 44-7 win over Maryland.
With the win, Penn State is also headed to Indianapolis to play Oregon in the Big Ten Championship game after Ohio State fell to Michigan 13-10 inside the Horseshoe.
It was a shaky start for Penn State. On the first play of the game runningback Nick Singleton, was stripped by Tommy Akingbesote at Penn State 25.
Maryland then scored on its first play by NC State transfer, MJ Morris. Morris would find Kaden Prather for a 25-yard score to give the Terrapins and an early 7-0 lead with just 16 seconds into the game. It would be Maryland’s first time scoring on its first offensive play since October 5 2019 at Rutgers.
The Nittany Lions rebounded on the return. Singleton would return it inside the Maryland 32.
Penn State’s Tyler Warren ran the ball and he gained one yard.
Drew Allar found Omari Evans on the next play. Kaytron Allen mishandled the ball losing yardage.
The Nittany Lions asked Ryan Barker to come out for a career long a 49-yard field goal into the wind. Barker was successful. Penn State trailed Maryland 7-3 with 12:47 remaining in the opening quarter.
The Nittany Lions trailed the Terrapins 7-3 after one quarter.
Penn State pressured Morris and Logan Champ all game allowing six sacks for a season high for Maryland in Saturday’s 44-7 loss.
Penn State got seven on a Allar one l-yard score on 3 plays for 30 yards. Maryland would be stopped short on their own side of the field on a fourth down. The Nittany LIons would capitalize on their mistakes that would give Penn State a 10-7 lead.
The Nittany Lions scored two more times Beau Pribula,Warren would both earn touchdowns before the half.
Penn State led Maryland 31-7 at halftime.
Maryland first half stats, the Terrapins really struggled converting on third down going 1-7 in the first half.
On Maryland’s opening drive of the second half, the Terps got a big run from Roman Hemby. Things would unravel after that.
Adbul Carter sacked Morris resulting in another punt.
Penn State would score two more times. Singleton would score on a 18-yard touchdown while Tyseer Denmark would score as well to end regulation.
The Nittany Lions on the defensive side, Tony Rojas and Lane Dejuan had interceptions in Saturday’s win over Maryland.
The Lions had Warren hurdling people it was a great night if you were a Penn State fan.
The NIttany Lions had 412 total offensive yards to Marylands 194 total offensive yards. Penn State came out victorious over the Terps, winning by 37.
