LEWISTOWN – Mifflin County Huskies welcomed in the Hershey Trojans on Pink Out Night. The Lady Huskies came out with the 47-37 victory Wednesday night.

Huskies’ Junior guard Mackenzie Peachey would give Mifflin County a early lead on a two pointer to begin the game.  She would also  be fouled by Lillian Weiler Timmins Peachey but would miss her foul shot to keep it at a 2-0 lead.

Mifflin County led early and often as Huskies freshman guard Leah Reed would have four points in the first half. Mifflin County would have the lead 16-14 at halftime.

Reed and her confidence and her trust in her teammates and coaches showed tonight totaling 11 points.

Maelyn Gingrich would also put up 11 points in the victory over Hershey.

Gingrich would have three three pointers on the night.

Jayda Kanagy and Jalee Bodtorf were the only other Lady Huskies to make a three in tonight’s game.

“We worked together more in the second half. We listened. We took feedback from our coach during halftime,” said  Leah Reed. We played together as a team and we had more positive attitudes and mindsets. We came into the game and we took and fed energy off of each other and I think that helped us win.”

Kanagy had seven points on the night so did Bodtorf. Mifflin County played well on the defensive end forcing turnovers speeding up the Trojans.

“I thought we had contributions from up and down our lineup. Everybody  did some good things,” said Coach Aaron Gingrich. “Unfortunately we wanted to speed Hershey up in the first half make them play 94 feet and turn them over. “The good part is we did that, the bad part is we shot about 15% from the floor in the first half, evident  by our 16 points. We were 2- for-16 from three in the first half against their zone missing easy looks that we normally make.

Unfortunately that gives opposing teams confidence so we had to come out tough in the second half and executed much better scoring 31 points in the second half and coming away with a relatively easy victory.”

Lauren Richards was the leading scorer for Hershey tonight totaling ten points. Eva Carlson was second in scoring with eight.

Hershey kept up with Mifflin County Mifflin County was just a little bit better coming out on top to defeat the Trojans 47-37.
