LEWISTOWN- Mifflin County Lady Huskies welcomed in Palmyra on Senior Night at the Mifflin County High School.

The Lady Huskies made it a sweet night for their seniors coming out with a close 46-43 victory.

Starting off the lady Cougars jumped out to an early lead having the advantage over the Huskies. Palmyra led Mifflin County 15-8 after one quarter. Mya Doster was the leading scorer with eight points. Mackenzie Margut was second in scoring with five points. The pair played well tonight in a game that was a battle early and often.

Palmyra would still lead Mifflin County 21-19 going into halftime. Doster would have 10 points. Mifflin County’s Mackenzie Peachey would have eight points going into the intermission with the team trailing by two.

“It was a great team win. The kids battled the entire night. Senior night always tends to cause teams to be a little out of sorts. Emotionally its a big night for the seniors and the underclassmen,” said Mifflin County coach Aaron Gincrich. “I think you saw that in the first part of the game with us missing some early shots and girls having some quick fouls. Then I thought we settled in defensively holding them to limted points over the final three quarters. We took care of the ball against their press and did a really nice job on their two All Conference players in Salus and Doster.

Really proud of the way the girls fought. It was the last time and last game for Maelyn and Jalee in this gym and I thought they played very well for us tonight and we appreciate all of the contributions over the years.”

Mifflin County would still play from behind trailing 37-33 after the third quarter. Mifflin County got fouled a lot tonight. The Huskies made their foul shots when they most needed too. Payton Weaver totaled nine points while her teammate Jayda Kanagy had eight points on the night.

Payton Weaver said just gotta continue playing good defense work even harder and continue to play as a team.

Mifflin County got solid effort from Peachey as she would be the leader in scoring for her team with 17 points

Mackenzie Peachey said: I just showed that like every play you need to work for and like getting that every play just working hard for that one play not looking at the whole stretch of game just working hard for the long game and everyone contributed and just worked hard and gave it their all.
