LEWISTOWN- The Mifflin County Huskies Boys basketball team welcomed in the Palmyra Cougars it was also the Justin Henry Scholarship Night.

Mifflin County hopped out to a 2-0 lead on a Jack Curry two pointer to give the Huskies an early advantage.

The Cougars would answer back with two free throws coming from Alex Dorta to even the score at 2-2.

It was all Palmyra early as the Cougars led 16-12 after the first quarter.  Sophomore forward Aidan Willard led the team in points in the first with five.

Mifflin County’s Josh Hartzler and Luke Bender had three points in the quarter.

Mifflin County never really got going or had command of the game since leading early in the game 2-0.

Aidan Attivo would be the team’s leading scorer with only six points for a team that only could score 20 in the first half. Curry would be second in scoring with four Palmyra led the Huskies at halftime 28-20.

“We rely on transition offense, you know for a portion of our scoring. We got none of that tonight, because our defense was terrible and that’s where our focus has to be,” said Coach Wade Curry. “We’ve got to fix some things defensively. Five guys on the court together have to be playing seamlessly. We did not do that tonight. I didn’t think we had a single quarter that was great and was not proud of our efforts today, higher expectionations for this team and in the way we competed today, and that’s the first time I’ve  said that.”

“So we’ll be in the gym tomorrow and we’ll be focused on the disciplines of man-to-man defense. That’s why we have to play defense to get transition offense. And if you look you know in the score book. I don’t know how many threes we took but there weren’t many.  A massive result of lack of discipline on the offense of those working.”

Mifflin County would find scoring opportunities to open up the second half. Landon Haigh would score a few times to give the Huskies hope with four total points.

Dorta would lead the night in scoring as a team and in the whole game with 16, knocking down three three-pointers in the team’s 57-43 win over Mifflin County. Willard was second in scoring with 13. Attivo led the night in scoring for Mifflin County Bender was second in scoring.

Mifflin County will look to rebound in their next game on Monday.
