PO muscled out tough win over Bellefonte

BELLEFONTE – The Philipsburg-Osceola baseball team muscled out a very close 4-2 contest over Bellefonte Thursday.

Offensively, the Mounties plated  three runs in the top of the fifth inning to go ahead in the contest.

Bellefonte sent lefty Trevor Johnson to the mound as he faced off against POs Denny Prestash.

The Mounties opened the scoring in the third inning.

Sam McDonald led off the inning with a single and later was brought in on a Jake DeSimone single, making it a 1-0 advantage.

Philipsburg-Osceola’s rallied again in the fifth posting three more in their big inning. This came by clutch singles driven in by TJ Wildman, Parker Lamb and a sacrifice fly by Desimone.

Johnson brought his team back to within two in the bottom of the inning as he hit a home run, scoring himself and Josh Brown. Brown singled earlier in the inning.

Philipsburg-Osceola held on to take the victory as they held Bellefonte to only four hits while the Mounties offense manufactured nine.

Johnson led the Red Raiders with two RBIs on the night.

DeSimone had three hits and two RBIs to pace the Mounties.
