Penns Valley’s Bumgardner tosses 2-hit win over Indians

SPRING MILLS- Two of Central Pennsylvania teams met up Thursday on the softball diamond. Juniata County met Centre County as Juniata traveled to Penns Valley.

A day after topping legendary Philipsburg-Osceola program, the Rams continued its winning ways as the home team topped the Lady Indians 12-0.

Taylor Bumgardner had the A-Game going as she tossed the 2-hit shut out and she also struck out six along the way.

Bumgardner also helped her own cause at the plate, going 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Teammate Avelyn Van Heyst  blasted a home run in the contest, finishing with two hits while Ellie Coursen collected three hits in the win.

Juniata’s hits were from Alexea Frontz and Navi Jackson.

Penns Valley Area Rams got on the board in the first inning.  Penns Valley Area Rams scored one run when Ellie Coursen singled.

After holding Juniata scoreless in the second, the Rams were back at it posting a 4-run second.

Penns Valley picked up the four runs on one crack of the bats as Van Heyst blasted a grand slam, upping the Penns Valley lead to 5-0.

Bumgardner was setting them up and sitting the Indians down, putting her team in a comfortable position.

In the third, fourth and fifth, the Rams offense was consistent posting a run in those innings.

The veteran Rams team put the game on ice as they again rallied for a 4-run fourth inning.

With Bumgardner continuing to dominate off the mound, the Indians could not find that rallying point.

So the the Rams were able to pick up the out of conference meeting.
