Penns Valley offense too much for Lady Raiders

SPRING MILLS – Tuesday night, the Penns Valley girls hosted Mountain League rival in prime time soccer action.

The Lady Rams controlled the contest throughout scoring two times in both halves while holding the Lady Raiders to just one goal en route to a 4-1 victory.

Penns Valley spread out the scoring as four different players finished with a goal.

Picking up the lone goal for Bellefonte was Jordan Stahlman.

Both teams came out primed and ready to go.

Penns Valley outshot Bellefonte 22-10. Bellefonte had the advantage in corner opportunities by a 5-3 margin.

Both teams exchanged momentum numerous times for the first 14 minutes of the game.

But at the 26-minute mark, Penns Valley set up for a corner opportunity. Nikki Denger kicked the ball to the middle of the box and teammate Anna Bressler took it and blistered a shot past the Bellefonte goal.

Just minutes later, with crowd pressing the Bellefonte goal area. After a shot by Scotty Dinges was stopped, it bounced right at teammate Ceci Fields made the most of her opportunity, taking the rebound and sending it home, upping the Rams lead to 2-0.

From there both defenses took over control of the contest as both back-thirds took care of business.

But late in the first, Bellefonte’s Stahlman was able to drive through traffic to post Bellefonte’s lone goal.

Coming out of the intermission, the Rams were able to push the ball down into the Red Raider end, when Dinges was taken down in the goal box allowing a Penns Valley to line up for a penalty kick.

Staring down at Bellefonte goalie Keira Whitman, Denger was able to fake out Whitman, sending a blast to the right corner, upping the Rams lead to two.

Rounding out the scoring was Scottie Dinges as she put the game out of reach to secure the 4-2 victory.
