Penns Valley and Bald Eagle finish dual meet season

SPRING MILLS – Saturday, the District 6 Class AA championship team duals were held at the Penns Valley high school.

Four teams Bald Eagle Area, Bishop McCourt, Penns Valley and Huntingdon did battle for the right to be crowned District 6 title.

In the end, the result was the same as last year as the Crushers of Bishop McCourt came out with the title and a trip to states.

Penns Valley finished runner up going 2-1 on the day while Bald Eagle finished with a 1-2 showing.

The Bad Eagles had the misfortune of starting off the day with Bishop McCourt, falling 65-10.

In their second match, the Eagles and the Huntingdon Bearcats battled down to the final match before a winner would be decided.

Bumping up a weight class, the Bearcats 285 – pounder Landon Erdman battled Brody Gardner, in a thrilling 4-1 contest to pull out the victory 36-34.

Huntingdon took the first match of the night in the 107-pound weight class when Gaige Sholly opened with a pin over Bald Eagle Area’s Michael Wesley, at 0:52.

Huntingdon also took the 114-point weight class when Landon Snare pinned Logan Burns in 1:10 to improve to a 12-0 lead.

Bald Eagle battled back at 121 as Liam Purcell pinned Gavin Bilich after a strong first period. He took Billich down at the 3:12 mark to cut the Bearcats lead in half, 12-6. Things got a little closer at 127 when Tanner Guenot took a 18-0 tech fall win over Ryle. Morningstar at 3:03, cutting the Huntingdon advantage to 12-11.

At 133, the Eagles took the lead for the first time, Caden Judice made quick work out of Jonathan Schneider at 1:08.

The Eagles added to its lead at 139 when Dawson Lomison rolled past Chris Gibson in a tech fall win 19-1 at 4:42.

Huntingdon took things at 145, when Bearcat Christian Taylor pinned Easton Grimes 0:12.

152-pounder Alex Surovec put his team back up 10, when the Wagle pinned Zachary Hershberger at 0:54, making it a 28-18 victory.

Bald Eagle suffered a tough loss at 160. Huntingdon’s Reese Hughes won by an injury default over Chase Kellander.

The Bearcats Grady Clark gave his team the temporary lead at 30-28 as he took a forfeit win in the process.

At 189, Dominick Peruso won a close 10-9 decision over Bald Eagles’ Kyle Watson.

Bald Eagle took back the lead at 215 when Caleb Close took care of Quinten Poorman with an early pin at 0:42.

With everything on the line at 285, Erdman picked up an early takedown and an escape and was able to hold on for the 4-1 decision making it a 36-34 contest.

Penns Valley 45, Huntingdon 23

In the opening contest of the day, the Rams got off to a strong start and rolled on to a 45-23 victory to head to the finals and a showdown with the Crushers.

Starting at 285, Huntingdon took the first contest when Landen Hess started off the match with an 8-0 major decision over Noah Metz.

Penns Valley came back at 107, Gaige Sholly won by a 21-5 technical fall at 5:34.

Things continued to roll at 114 when Max Dinges took care of Gavin Bilich at the 0:47 mark, giving the Rams a 10-5.

Conner Myers added his name to the list of Penns Valley winners as he pinned Landin Snare at 1:09.

127-pounder Erik Carlile pinned Huntingdon’s Rylee Morningstar at 1:45.

Penns Valley extended its lead to 28-5 when 133-pounder Tripp Watson pinned Chris Gibson at 5:00.

The lead continued to build for the Rams at 139. Zachary Rummel picked up a convincing 18-2 technical fall over Eli Wallen at 4:07.

Huntingdon returned to the scoreboard at 145. The Bearcats Christian Taylor muscled out a hard fought 6-4 win over Sawyer Fetterolf.

But at 152, back came Penns Valley. Seth Fetterolf pinned Reese Hughes to take home the pinfall at 2:52.

Teammate Brayden Lisowski won his match at 160, pinning Zachary Hershberger at 0:56.

With the match decided, the Bearcats continued to battle. At 172 – Grady Clark pinned Robert Martin, at 1:39. Huntingdon took the contest at 189 as Dominick Perusoescaped on a 2-1 decision over Shane Rimmey. Rounding out the match at 215 – Landon Erdman pinned Ty Steiger, at 1:17 making the final score a 45-23 victory for the Rams.
