It came down to the wire on Thursday at Big Spring High School, as the Mount Union Trojans grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 4-3, over Tri-Valley Dawgs. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the tenth when Georgie Bilger singled, scoring one run.
Nasir Collins, Bilger, and Maddox Hobbs at the bottom of Mount Union’s lineup combined for four of the team’s eight hits in their victory. They scored one run and drove in one.
Tri-Valley got on the board in the third inning after Davin Yocum induced Jason Stewart to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored.
Cody McClain walked, which helped Mount Union tie the game at one in the bottom of the sixth.
A double by Gavin Klock gave Tri-Valley the lead, 3-1, in the top of the seventh.
The Trojans tied the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a double by Jamon Ranck, and a single by Dylan Shawver.
McClain earned the win for Mount Union. The pitcher surrendered three hits and one run over four innings, striking out five and walking three. Klock took the loss for Tri-Valley . The right-handed pitcher went two and one-third innings, surrendering one run (zero earned) on two hits, striking out two and walking three. Yocum stepped on the mound first for Mount Union . The hurler gave up four hits and two runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking two. Braeden Doyle led things off on the hill for Tri-Valley . The right-handed pitcher allowed six hits and three runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out four and walking two.
Mount Union Trojans’s Hobbs, the number nine hitter, led Mount Union with two hits in three at bats. Shawver, Ranck, and Bilger each drove in one run for Mount Union. Shawver stole two bases. Mount Union stole five bases in the game.
Klock provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Tri-Valley Dawgs.
