People have been returning to movie theaters as pandemic fears fade, but theater chains are now facing another problem — a popcorn shortage. The Wall Street Journal reports that farmers are being paid more to keep growing corn for popcorn, as other crops like soybeans have become more lucrative and also don’t require the costly fertilizers needed for growing popcorn. There’s also a problem with having enough truckers to move the popcorn — a supply chain issue that’s been hitting many industries — and even a supply problem with the material that lines the bags movie theater popcorn comes in, leading some theaters to switch to plastic and metal containers. There could even be a problem with getting a soda at theaters, as getting cups for them has become an issue too
