Mount Union matmen tops Southern Huntingdon

MOUNT UNION — The Trojans got on Southern Huntingdon early and did not let up as they defeated the Rockets 58-12 in an Inter County Conference wrestling match on Tuesday night.

The Trojans had scored six falls during the match with the fastest fall coming in the 107 weight class as Mason Beatty went up against Southern Huntingdon’s Noah McMath. Beatty found his opening right away and quickly dropped McMath to the mat and scored the fall in 15 seconds.
The second fastest fall was from the 152 bout between Mount Union’s own Hunter Steel took on David Patton of Southern Huntingdon and Steel found himself taking Patton down scored the fall in just 33 seconds.
Freshman Jacik Hess of Mount Union was the third Trojan to get himself a fall as he did it against Kyler Cromwell during the 127 pound match.
The fourth Mount Union wrestler to get a fall was fellow freshmen Micah Atherton in 139 against Elijah Harper. Atherton was able to get Harper to the mat before Harper managed to escape, but not for long as Atherton jumped back on him and scored the fall in 1:35.
The next Trojan to get himself a fall was junior Jase Ripple who defeated Justin Whistle in 1:11 during the 172 bout.
Then the sixth and final wrestler for Mount Union to get a fall during the evening was at 189 as Josh Ryan put the clamps down on Noah Rice in just 51 seconds.
Mount Union (1-0) will travel to face Bellwood-Antis on Thursday.
