The Mifflin County softball team couldn’t keep up with Cumberland Valley and fell 12-5 on Tuesday.
The Lady Huskies got on the board in the top of the first inning after Riley Hine scored after tagging up, and Malaina Maxwell doubled to center field, each scoring one run.
Cumberland Valley flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on six hits to take the lead, 5-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a home run to left field by Sydney May that drove in three.
Cumberland Valley added one run in the third. Shilah Laudig doubled to left field on a 3-0 count, making the score 6-4.
Hine hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the fourth for the Mifflin County.
Cumberland Valley scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Emma Stroup drew a walk, scoring one run, May doubled, scoring two runs, and Janelle Schneider singled, scoring two runs.
Lauren Richardson earned the win for Cumberland Valley. The pitcher surrendered three hits and two runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out nine and walking three. Piper Specht took the loss for Mifflin County. The pitcher went six innings, allowing 12 runs (11 earned) on 13 hits, striking out three and walking three. Laudig stepped in the circle first for Cumberland Valley. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and three runs over two innings, striking out one and walking two.
Maxwell and Jalee Bodtorf each collected two hits for Mifflin County. Hine led the Lady Huskies with two runs batted in. The infielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Ava Baker paced Mifflin County with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating five walks for the game. Mifflin County turned one double play in the game.
Cumberland Valley accumulated 13 hits in the game. May drove the middle of the lineup, leading Cumberland Valley with five runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Leadoff hitter Annika Shearer led Cumberland Valley with three hits in four at bats. Schneider, Stroup, and Laudig each collected multiple hits for Cumberland Valley. Leah Dennison stole two bases. Cumberland Valley stole four bases in the game.
Mifflin County plays at home on Thursday against Central Dauphin in their next game.
