Mifflin County girls XC team display talents at Mt. Lion Invite
Sep 21, 2024

The Mifflin County Cross Country Lady Huskies ran in the Altoona Mountain Lion Invitational on Saturday, September 21. Amilia Coffey led the team and finished 22 overall, bringing home a medal from the varsity girls’ race.

”I noticed at the one mile that Amilia was hurting,” said MIfflin County coach Neil Breneman. “I was super proud how she pushed through the discomfort enough to secure the position she did.”

The team took 9th place overall in the varsity girls race.

“Our athletes have mixed reactions to the Altoona course. It has some pretty good hills, and running on a hot day at 11 a.m. is challenging,” said Breneman. “It pushed them physically and mentally. One definite fact, however, is that Altoona hosts a phenomenal invitational. They have music blaring, feed the athletes well, and have friendly and helpful staff. Our athletes love it!”
”One of my other runners was sick at the starting line, but she pushed through it and still ran a respectable race. It’s a reminder of how hard racing pushes these young women, but through it, they learn about resilience and how strong they really can be.Maya Morgan really stood out today, looking much more confident and running with a smile on her face. Caroline Palopoli was close to her season best on a more challenging course. I will be excited to see how their growing confidence leads them over the next few weeks.”
Scoring for the Huskies was:
Amilia Coffey (23:02)
Ava Kratzer (23:45)
Lexi Anderson (26:05)
Maya Morgan (26:35)
Caroline Palopoli (27:03)
The team will be back in action on Tuesday, September 24 at Central Dauphin High School.
