It was senior night for MC Cross Country as three senior girls were recognized, Justice Sheaffer, Sarah Diehl, and Adeline Leason. The Mifflin County girls team ended their season with victories against 4 schools on their home course Thursday eveningas they defeated Juniata (18-45), Susquenita (26-31), Newport (15-50), and Williamsport (17-41).
The MC Girls get ready for their race.
The race tonight was a final opportunity to test their fitness level before running for the District 6 Championships next Saturday, October 28 in Reedsville. Again, we had numerous girls set season bests and all time personal records. I am proud of how hard they continue to go after improvement. I was a little concerned we were going to be in trouble against Susquenita. Adeline and Amelia were out front but then they had four stacked in together. Justice picked up one of them and our 4-7 runners took care of the other positions securing a close victory.
Adeline Leason (20:38) led the team with Amelia Coffey (21:06) trailing close by with another PR. Amelia is getting stronger and gaining confidence. Justice Sheaffer (22:35) had a nice season best securing third place and inching close to her career PR. Rounding out the scoring was Alexis Anderson with a really nice race and big PR at 24:02 and Kennadi Bauman was right behind her with a PR of 24:04. Both Alexis and Kennadi have shown remarkable improvement throughout the season and have proven themselves as valuable members of the team. Ava Kratzer (24:14) was a close 6th runner with Ava Wagner (25:01) following closely. I am proud of the strength that our middle girls have had and the depth they have given to the team.
Adeline Leason and Amelia Coffey lead the pack.
The next week will be an important time to prepare to run their best at Districts where several of them will try to earn their spot in the State Championships in Hershey.
