LEWISTOWN- The Mifflin County girls soccer team (4-11) clashed with winless 0-11 Waynesboro for a late afternoon matchup. Mifflin County was looking to sweep the season series aftering taking game one earlier in the season 1-0.
Both teams got out to slow starts. Mifflin County did have the upper hand when it came to shots having seven shots on goal. Desi Hershberger accounted for three of those seven shots. She had a great feel as she came close several times.
The Indians only could muster out four shots in the first half but had good looks early but was shut down by strong defensive efforts from the Lady Huskies to limted the shooting for Waynesboro Emma Jones also had her fair share of shots on goal for the Indians but couldn’t come through.
“ It’s definitely nice to get back into the winning sides of things but yeah we didn’t play our best soccer tonight,” said Mifflin County coach Barrett Knepp we were pretty sloppy most of the way through.Towards the end we started putting a little more pressure on.I felt pretty good about going into overtime period there that we could actually find the back of the net and it was nice to make that last one.”
Mifflin County as the game got later played better and indeed put pressure on the Indians. But the pressure for both teams would get even greater because two halves would not decide the game.
Mifflin County would have to feel good about their chances after playing good enough to feel like that had the upper hand. That would hold true Mifflin County would only need one minutes to decide their fate. MIfflin County would strike the net on an Emma Herwig goal to give the Lady Huskies a 1-0 win in front of the home crowd on senior night.
“I hope that they continue to grow as people obviously and players and i mean they’ve had a great season,” said Emma Herwig when she reflected on what her senior teammates meant to her. “They have done so much for us we are going to miss them.”
Mifflin County’s Mackenzie Peachey and Lorynn Knepp played their last home game as a member of the girls soccer team with a win tonight. The Huskies have snapped a six-game losing streak.
