Mifflin County falls to Northern in 2OT

The 1-0 Mifflin County Huskies traveled to Dillsburg Friday night to face the 0-1 Northern York Polar Bears.

“It was a tough week.  We started school. We weren’t on the field much and it showed tonight,” said Mifflin County coach Shane Breon. “We weren’t able to hit too much. I know they are a well, good coached football team. I knew that i knew it was going to be four quarters of football with these guys.  I lived down here. They never give up here on the field or anywhere. We got to settle in there’s some things we missed offensively. “We just need to regroup. We need to be able to run the ball a little bit better. We got to regroup.  It doesn’t get any easier the rest of the year with the teams we face so.

Mifflin County elected to kickoff Brendon Noerr teed it up and let it fly. Mifflin County was able to force the Polar Bears to punt in the teams opening drive.

Brice Rishel ripped off a 41-yard run eventually putting the Huskies in striking distance to crack the scoreboard first.

Mifflin County would do just that Fletcher Wilson would connect on a pass to Landon Haigh for a one yard score to give Mifflin County a 7-0 advantage. 

Mifflin County had scoring plays from Dupree Reed on a 29-yard score and a 84-yard score capping off a 84-yard score from Cyrell Green.

Northern York had an explosive run game all night. Mifflin County did very little to try and stop the Polar Bears rushing attack. Grady Bonin and Gabe Johnson had a field day in the running game. Mifflin County led 20-7 at the half.

Mifflin County would score again pushing the lead to 27-7 at the end of the third quarter.

Bonin and Johnson would continue to run it down Mifflin County’s throat and the Polar Bears would not give up with 5:55 to go in the football game. Once being down 20, Northern would rally to only trail by seven.

The Polar Bears would force a three and out .

Mifflin County’s Noerr would punt but the bounce would favor the Polar Bears. That would give Northern 30 yards to go.

Jonson would pick up ten yards down to the Mifflin County 20-yard line. Bonnin found Austin Miller for the score. The Polar Bears would tie it up with the extra point, splitting the uprights.

The Huskies and Northern would force overtime each time got to possess the ball at the 10 yard line. Both teams would trade scores as the game would go into double overtime.

Johnson would find a big hole the Huskies defense would not be able to get him down leading to a go ahead score 41-34.

Mifflin County had a fourth down as Wilson was pressured by a familiar face that caused havoc all game. Bradon Wiley would pressure Wilson’s as his pass would fall incomplete.

Northern York would stun the Huskies at home in front of the home crowd in Dillsburg 41-34.
