REEDSVILLE – Tuesday the Mifflin County Cross Country team went up against one of its biggest rivals at their home course.
The Huskies welcomed in State College, who finished third in the state last season.
This afternoon belonged to the Huskies as they went up against the Little Lions without two of their top runners, Carter Smith and Reese Cubbison.
In the end, Mifflin County took the race 26-20.
Wyatt Kauffman finished second overall finishing with a time of 17:17.
Teammates Aidan Scavitti and Koy Aurand finished fourth and fifth with times of 17:50 and 17:51, respectively.
Hart Oden was close behind posting a sixth place finishing time of 17:52.
Mifflin County’s Styers Oden finished ninth with a time of 18:02.
Rounding out the top 10 for MIfflin County was Hoyt Rodenbaugh with a 10th place time of 18:10.
“Today was a good day to be a Husky. State College was 3rd in the state last year, and we knew even if they held some of their top guys out we would have our work cut out for us,” said Mifflin County coach Alex Monroe. “We are fortunate enough to have some depth this year, and so I made the decision to rest Carter Smith and Reese Cubbison from competition today (I expect both to make it all the way to Hershey). This allowed our main pack to really show out today, and they just ran so well. They stuck to the plan and we had a lot of PR’s even with a higher mileage week. We return to competition Saturday at the Mt. Lion Invitational in Altoona.”
