At James Buchanan, the MIfflin County boys soccer team wins 2-1 in the first OT.
Mifflin county displayed an all out effort by all team members to earn a 2-1 win in the first OT at James Buchanan.
“We got on the board 11 minutes into the match with a strike from distance by RJ Miller. We worked hard in the first half and had a good run of play to take a 1-0 lead into the half,” said MIfflin County coach Todd Peters. “With 23 minutes left in the second half, James Buchanan played a long ball in that we didn’t win in the air and they finished to make it 1-1.”
Mifflin County cranked up the intensity and had some chances and corners but they also hit the post and they needed some timely Jack Suydam saves that sent the Huskies to extra time.
“The boys were fired up to get right back out there for overtime and that was awesome to see/hear,” said Peters.
There was some back and forth to start in OT, and then hard off the wing play by Brayden Benfer happened. He managed to keep the ball alive and that ball eventually made its way to the middle of the pitch to be buried calmly by Jace Bagrosky with 3 minutes left in the first OT.
“We had a full buy in by our squad tonight that represents what we want and need all the time,” said Peters. “We are so proud of their effort and the willingness they showed to do all the things necessary big and small to bring home this huge win for our program. We and they can’t wait to continue our work at practice tomorrow with this squad.”
Mifflin County led in shots on goal by a 4-3 margin and also led 4-1 in corners.
Mifflin County goalie Jack Suydam finished with three saves.
