The MIfflin County boys soccer team battled tough but would fall to Waynesboro 1-0 Monday.
“Sloppy field conditions made traps, shots and opportunities all the more important in this match. We gave up a goal 7 minutes and 15 seconds in, when our own direct kick was played across our own middle of our box and then pounced on and Waynesboro punished us. We did challenge some air 50/50’s better than we have previously, but we didn’t run through the ball on the ground to challenge consistently,” said Mifflin County coach Todd Peters. “These things, along with dribbling the ball too much through the midfield didn’t help. We needed someone to be aggressive, from midfielders and forwards, that was going to mix it up, put us on their back and go finish one and we didn’t get that tonight. It was a shame because we wanted it for our seniors on their night, and also for our team, but it didn’t happen. We are thankful for all of our seniors and their time, effort and work they have put into our program. “
Mifflin County outshot Waynesboro 9-6. Both teams tied in corner opportunities with three.
Mifflin County goalie Jack Suydam finished with five saves.
