Mifflin County boys fall in road contest to Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG- Monday night the MIfflin County Huskies boys soccer team traveled to Gettysburg.

It would be a contest that  would be a 2-1 nail biting loss.

“We certainly played our game against Gettysburg but a span of two minutes where we got too comfortable cost us the win. The first half we played very disciplined all over the pitch. We created and had composure in our play the entire first half. Brayden Benfer got us on the board after a bouncing throw-in was in our attacking third. He struck a perfectly weighted ball nine minutes into the match to put us up 1-0,” said MIfflin County assistant coach Todd Peyers. “We discussed the need to withstand changes in their attack and how to defend it and ways in working for us to earn the win at halftime. Unfortunately, too early into the second half a step created too wide of a gap by our defense and they were off and running to score their first 30 seconds into the second half. A minute later a corner kick created confusion in front of the goal with a bouncing ball that found its way in for 2-1. We did continue to work and began to tire them out in the second half and had some chances. We played some corners that were dangerous and Zach Keller slammed the crossbar with a shot. We started running through the ball more in the second part of the second half while Jack Suydam was making some flying saves but we couldn’t get another on the board. We proved we can play with them and gained some confidence but we want to put it in the win column next time.”

Gettysburg led in shots on goal by a 13-7 margin while the Huskies tied Gettysburg 4-4  in corner opportunities.

Mifflin County led in the save department 11-6.

In the JV contest Gettysburg finished with the 3-0 win.
