Mifflin County 15-16s open up Mid-Atlantic play with win over Media

MILROY- Off to a great start.

Playing the host of this year’s Babe Ruth Mid-Atlantic Championship, the Mifflin County 15-16U All-Star team rallied to overcome a deficit over Media to sending the MC faithful home happy.

In the end, the “Blue-and-White” came through with the 5-4 win.

With the game tied at four when Thad Gerwick drew a walk as teammate Chase Leister scored on a wild pitch, putting the MIfflin County crew ahead for good at the end of the sixth.

Media opened up taking a 4-0 lead, notching a run in the second and three in the third.

Back came MIfflin County as they bounced back in the third.

Gerwick started things off in the inning, smashing a double.

Wyatt Parkes singled and moved Gerwick to third.

Na Zae Traxler roped the second double of the inning, scoring both Gerwick and Parkes.

With one out, Elliot Yetter sacrificed Traxler to third, setting the stage for Carson Cherry.

Cherry bounced into a fielders’ choice, scoring Traxler while cutting the Media lead to 4-3.

Mifflin County tied the game in the fourth, playing a run.

Chase Leister led off the inning posting a shot into left field.

With one out, Karl Shirey walked, putting runners on first and second.

Gerwick again came up big for MC as he sent a hit to left field, singling in Leister.

Picking up the win for MIfflin County was Braxton Smith while Leister started the contest.

MIfflin County was led offensively by Herwick who had two hits on the evening in the MIfflin County 5-hit contest.

Mifflin County will head back to the diamond on Friday night.
