Mifflin County 15/16 All Star 16U were triumphant over Altoona 7-4 on Saturday.
Altoona opened the scoring in the first after Gavin Treon scored after tagging up.
Wyatt Parkes walked, which helped Mifflin County 15/16 All Star 16U tie the game at one in the bottom of the third.
A walk by Karl Shirey gave Mifflin County 15/16 All Star 16U the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the fourth.
Nathan Phillips grounded into a fielder’s choice, which helped Altoona tie the game at two in the top of the fifth.
A solo home run to right field by Spencer Davis gave Altoona the lead, 3-2, in the top of the sixth.
Mifflin County 15/16 All Star 16U flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 7-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Shirey that drove in two.
Thad Gerwick earned the win for Mifflin County 15/16 All Star 16U. The reliever surrendered three hits and two runs over three innings, striking out three and walking none. Preston Long took the loss for Altoona. The reliever went two and one-third innings, allowing five runs on three hits, striking out two and walking six. Bo Benny stepped on the hill first for Mifflin County 15/16 All Star 16U. The starting pitcher surrendered two hits and two runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking four. Davis opened the game for Altoona. The hurler surrendered three hits and two runs over three and one-third innings, striking out one and walking six.
Shirey led Mifflin County 15/16 All Star 16U with three runs batted in. The second baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Jaden King led Mifflin County 15/16 All Star 16U with three hits in four at bats. Karl Shirey drove in five runs on two hits to lead Mifflin County 15/16 All Star 16U past Pine Forge Tribe 16U 22-0 on Sunday. Shirey hit a grand slam to left field in the first inning, scoring four runs, and tripled in the third inning, scoring two.
Mifflin County 15/16 All Star 16U scored 12 runs in the third inning on the way to victory. Wyatt Parkes drew a walk, scoring one run, Carson Cherry singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Jaren Kenny singled, scoring one run, Cullen Busch doubled, scoring two runs, Landon Rhodes hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Shirey tripled, scoring two runs, Jaden King singled, scoring one run, Cherry singled, scoring one run, and Thad Gerwick doubled, scoring one run.
Mifflin County 15/16 All Star 16U got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Cherry singled, scoring three runs, Busch drew a walk, scoring one run, Jake Knable drew a walk, scoring one run, Shirey hit a grand slam to left field, and Parkes singled, scoring one run.
Parkes earned the win for Mifflin County 15/16 All Star 16U. The starting pitcher gave up zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out three and walking one.
