Mifflin County 14s Fall After Big Comeback By Berlin Knights

The Mifflin County 14U All-Stars lost to the Berlin Knights 18-9 on Saturday even though they once led by five runs.

Bo Benny collected three hits in three at bats in the loss. Benny doubled in the second inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the first inning.

Mifflin County got on the board in the top of the first inning after Noah Wolfkiel doubled, scoring three runs, and Derek Wert drew a walk, scoring one run.

MC added two runs in the second. Benny doubled, making the score 6-1.

The Berlin Knights tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a play, a fielder’s choice by Brodie Nackovich, and a ground out by Ryan Votto.

Mifflin County took the lead in the top of the fourth inning after Benny singled, Gatlin Kauffman singled, and Landon Rhodes grounded out, each scoring one run.

The Knights flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring six runs on two hits to take a 12-9 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by DJ Lewis that drove in two.

Noah Wray stepped on the bump first for Mifflin County. They surrendered two hits and three runs (two earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking two. Cole Buchinsky opened the game for Berlin. They allowed two hits and four runs (three earned) over two-thirds of an inning, striking out none and walking three.

Wolfkiel led Mifflin County with three runs batted in. They went 1-for-2 on the day. Lucas Shawver led MC with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Colton Aumiller stole two bases. Mifflin County  turned two double plays in the game.

Nathan DiPompo drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Knights with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-2 on the day. Nick Iuliucci led Berlin with two hits in three at bats. The Berlin Knights had a strong eye at the plate, collecting 12 walks for the game. Lewis and Jordan Demasi led the team with three free passes each. Votto, Lewis, Nackovich, and Demasi each stole multiple bases for BK. The Berlin Knights stole 14 bases in the game.
