MCVEYTOWN – The McVeytown Eagles and the Burnham Bulldogs not only battled each other, but the elements as well. But ultimately it was the Eagles who came out victorious by the final score 18-0 in a CKFL Peewee football game Sunday afternoon.
All of the scoring came during the opening half of the game with McVeytown getting its first score from Calvin Napikoski muscled his way into the endzone from the one yard line.
Lincoln Knable took his turn to score some points as he went four yards for the rushing touchdown.
But then on the kickoff, the Bulldogs missed their opportunity to grab the ball and Cole Laughlin of the Eagles managed to fall on top of it to give the ball back to McVeytown.
Then Matthew Hartsock flew down the field and completed a 47 yard touchdown run which ended up being the final score of the game.
Alexander Weaver then got another fumble on the follow kickoff, Laughlin also got himself another fumble recovery and Burnham’s Junior Vodapija scored an interception and kept the Eagles’ offense grounded.
It was pretty much a defensive shutout by both defenses throughout the second half. Here are some of the highlights.
Knable had a big fumble recovery, while on the Burnham side Connor Rose also collected a fumble. Defensively McVeytown was led by Laughlin and Owen Fultz who kept the inside gaps closed. For the Bulldogs, they were led by the duo of Ricky Jenkins and Archer Curry.
The Eagles also won during the Mighty Mights game over Burnham with a very close score of 6-4.
McVeytown will host the Little Indians of Juniata next Sunday with the Mighty Mights game starting at noon and the Peewee game at 1 p.m.
For Burnham, the Bulldogs will hit the road and will compete against the Derry-Decatur Cyclones. Mighty Mights at noon and Peewee will start at 1 p.m.
Good luck to both teams!
