Sam McDonald drove in six runs on four hits to lead Philipsburg-Osceola past Bishop Carroll 19-0 on Wednesday. McDonald tripled in the fifth scoring three, singled in the second scoring two, and doubled in the first scoring one.
Philipsburg-Osceola scored 10 runs in the first inning on the way to victory. Parker Lamb drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, Zach Yoder doubled, scoring one run, Connor Guenot drew a walk, scoring one run, McDonald doubled, scoring one run, Archer Baughman tripled, scoring one run, and Fischer White tripled, scoring two runs.
A double by Guenot, and a single by McDonald helped the Mountaineers extend their early lead in the second.
Philipsburg-Osceola added one run in the third. Yoder singled to left field, making the score The Mountaineers scored five runs on two hits in the top of the fifth inning. Ian Haney drew a walk, scoring one run, McDonald tripled, scoring three runs, and an error scored one run.
Yoder earned the win for Philipsburg-Osceola. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking none. Philips took the loss for the Huskies. The reliever went three innings, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on six hits, striking out none and walking six. Cullen Myers stepped on the bump first for Bishop Carroll. The starter gave up two hits and seven runs (two earned) over two-thirds of an inning, striking out none and walking three.
Philipsburg-Osceola collected 12 hits in the game. Yoder collected two hits for the Mountaineers in two at bats. Philipsburg-Osceola had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 11 walks for the game. Lamb and Jack Nyman led the team with two free passes each.
Jacob Gregg went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Bishop Carroll in hits. The Huskies turned one double play in the game.
Next up for Philipsburg-Osceola is a game against Clearfield on Monday.
